JIGSAW JUNK STEP 5 To make a hinge, cut two fastener pieces from wrapping paper. And then glue them together. Next, glue one half of the hinge to the back side of the fastener piece and the other half to the back side of the support, spacing the two pieces about 1/8-inch apart. STEP 6 Glue puzzle-covered mat to the backing mat. Center the assembled stand on the back of the backing and glue only the fastener to the board. Let dry. Center ribbon on the back of the support pieces and glue to fasten in place. Finally, adjust ribbon for standing. Glue ribbon to the back of the backing. Trim ribbon ends. From jigsaw junk to a work of art -- you've just created jigsaw junk! SOME COOL IDEAS: Do you have more puzzle pieces? Create these great projects to keep or give away as gifts: Make a necklace: First gather together puzzle pieces, medium-size beads, dental floss, and 1 1/2 yards of narrow ribbon. Make a hole in the center of each puzzle piece with a hammer and nail. Cut an 18-inch-long piece of dental floss. Alternately string one bead then six puzzle pieces. Cut the ribbon into two equal lengths and fold each length in half. Tie the ends of the floss to the centers of the loops. Clip the floss. Slip the ribbon tails through a bead. Knot the ribbon ends. Create a tree ornament: Cut out a tree shape from heavy cardboard. Glue layers of puzzle pieces to the tree. Then spray-paint the ornament with gold paint. When it's dry, glue some unpainted pieces onto the tree wherever you wish. Glue a gold cord at the top of the back for hanging. Design a wreath: Cut out a circular wreath shape from heavy cardboard. Glue layers of puzzle pieces over the circle, allowing pieces to extend over the edge. Glue some silk or plastic greens and a bright ribbon bow at the top. Use extra-tacky glue to fasten a string hanger on the back of the wreath. Printed from Cool Crafts ©1994 Meredith Corporation and Multicom Publishing
